Workshops, Sessions and Visits
This session was educational for children. They had never heard of a limerick before attending this event [at the library] today (Deborah - Parent)
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising Ray for our children at St Wilfrid's. It was a brilliant way to start our poetry week and the children and staff really enjoyed the session (Leanne - Head of School Improvement)
My Year 4 class visited Ray at the local library during Children's Mental Health Week. Ray shared some of his poetry with the children and then helped them to create their own fantastic poems which focused on positive and negative feelings. The children absolutely loved the session and couldn't wait to continue writing poetry when they returned to school. Ray also came to school for a follow-up lesson to listen to the children's own poems. In a fantastic, funny, flamboyant assembly, he helped the whole school become enthused about poetry and writing (Chris - Teacher)
Ray brings joy and inspiration to everyone who attends his events within libraries; his wonderful range of books enable people to take that positivity home with them! (Jenny - Wigan Libraries)
Ray delivered a poetry session at our local library earlier in the year. From the word 'go' he instantly captured the children's attention with his enthusiasm, intonation of his voice and his lovely rapport with the children. His delivery was really well paced and the children responded so well to the wonderful variety of the pieces of poetry - perfectly matched to their interests and age range. He included the children throughout, constantly asking them questions and providing them with opportunities to join in and become involved, making it very much a piece of their own poetry. The children found this extremely fun and exciting! His resources were fantastic and very engaging for the children, again making the session very inclusive for all and really interactive - in particular the children all commented on the sticky Velcro words that were used, an idea that can be taken back to the classroom and used with the children in a poetry unit. The children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed our poetry afternoon with Ray and many were very keen to purchase a book with their favourite poems in to take home, something they do still fondly talk about and share when we have looked at poetry in school. I would highly recommend others to take the time to see Ray in action and share his wonderful work. (Charlotte - Teacher)
[My daughter] isn't very confident with writing but this is a good session to help her practise. Refreshing session, I will continue rhyming with children at home (Louise - Parent)
Thank you, Ray! We absolutely loved having you here and would like to work with you again in the future. I am definitely more than happy to recommend you to other schools! (Liz - English Lead and Teacher)

A great read! The poems were great to read, very funny and good illustrations too. Would definitely recommend this book for all age ranges. A great gift and ideal to introduce children to poetry. (Jen - Teacher)
Top Stuff! Great fun to read. Made me laugh and smile. I'm an ex-teacher and I can imagine this book of entertaining poems being well received in schools (Dan - Author)
Good fun. Great, fun rhymes for kids of all ages. All are short and fun. So you can read for 2 minutes or 20 minutes which helps keep kids interested. Well worth buying. (Nick - Parent)
A Definite Must for Primary Aged Children. Lucy the Tooth Fairy's Last Chance is another brilliant selection of poems from Ray Douglas full of funny, rhyming narratives as well as more serious poems on a theme. My Year 3 class loved this book just as much as The Silly Sausage Saga and it is one of the most well-thumbed books in our Reading Corner (Beth - Primary School Teacher)
Brilliantly Written. A great mix of humour and education, sure to entertain kids and the inner child. Not recommended for bedtime reading, my boy didn't stop giggling for an hour!!! (Antony - parent to Kai, aged 7)
An Utter Delight. I love Ray Douglas's poems, they are an utter delight. They bring much needed messages in the most delightful way. He is one of my favourite poets (Richard - Author and Poet)
Loved by my six year old. Bought this when it first came out and my daughter has loved it from being really young. She giggles so much at the rhymes. We love the variety of themes and styles of poetry in the book. Thank you Ray! (Anonymous Review from a parent)
